“During the 9 years I’ve been living and working in the RVA, VCU has played a major role in my everyday life.
My audition concert with the Richmond Philharmonic took place in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. I’ve worked with the Departments of Theatre, Dance, and Fashion. I’ve spoken for the School of Business’ Extraordinary Women Leaders Program. I’ve led orchestras at the Richmond Symphony/VCU Orchestra Project. When VCU reached the Final 4, I orchestrated the VCU fight song for the Richmond Symphony to play at its gala concert, and I helped coach the Notocords for their Sing-Off audition. I’ve lined up for road races in front of the Siegel Center, and I’ve conducted orchestras of 650 inside that same building.
But – it is joining the VCUMusic faculty that gives me my latest and most meaningful challenge. Now I get to work with the faculty, many of whom have been my colleagues for years, and the students, who I’m learning are some of the most open-minded, creative, and joyful souls around.” – Erin
